The CCOR Story

In the winter of 1996, a man brought his sister - diagnosed with stage-four breast cancer - to live with his family for her final days. The family, primarily the man and his wife, provided all her care - he went to his job late, visited her at lunch, and his wife was home to care for her by 3:30 in the afternoon. With this schedule, his sister was only alone about four hours per day. This went about as well as could be expected until at one of his lunch hour check-ins he came home and discovered his sister stuck under her hospital bed. She had been lying there unable to get free for three hours.

It was clear he needed someone with his sister around the clock. That afternoon the family started calling homecare agencies only to discover none of them could evaluate her for 72 hours. Once services were arranged for, the man found them to be completely inadequate - in the week and a half that service was scheduled, only two shifts were filled in their entirety. The man and his wife had to take much time off of work to fill the voids in service coverage. He thought, "There must be a better way to treat people" and began to search for alternatives to meet the needs of individuals in distress.

Companion Care of Rochester was born in October of 1997 to create a better service for individuals and families in need. Initially, a non-medical agency to provide a quick response and quality homecare for older adults and individuals with disabilities, in 2008 the company became a Licensed Health Care Agency (LHCSA), providing both medical and non-medical care. The agency's goal is to treat those cared for, and their families, like their own, at times when they can't be there.

CCOR's number one goal is to give you and your family responsive and quality service, allowing you peace of mind knowing your loved one is well cared for.

The man whose sister needed care is the founder and owner of CCOR, Al Gauvin. Still today, the ideals of "there must be a better way" and "treat clients like your own family" drive the company's mission. Let us give you and your loved one the care, dignity, and independence you deserve.
